How to Make Firecracker Chicken
Welcome to mycookpoint ! Today, I’ll be showing you how to make a delicious and easy restaurant-style Firecracker Chicken. This recipe is perfect for any part of the chicken, so let’s get started.
Ingredients
For the firecracker sauce, you will need:
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup Frank’s RedHot sauce
For the chicken:
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Black pepper
Preparing the Sauce
First, let’s make the firecracker sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, vinegar, garlic powder, soy sauce, and Frank’s RedHot sauce. Whisk the mixture over medium heat until the brown sugar dissolves, which should take about three minutes.
Once the sauce begins to boil lightly and all the sugar has dissolved, remove it from the heat. Set it aside while you prepare the chicken. This sauce is the key to our dish, giving it that signature firecracker kick.
Preparing the Chicken
Take your chicken thighs and trim any excess fat. If you prefer, you can also use drumsticks or wings. For this recipe, I’m using boneless, skinless chicken thighs for their rich flavor and tenderness.
Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium flame and add enough olive oil to coat the bottom. Sprinkle the chicken with salt and black pepper to taste. We want to keep the seasoning simple to let the firecracker sauce shine.
Cooking the Chicken
Place the chicken thighs in the skillet. Cook each side for three to five minutes, depending on the thickness of the meat and the heat of your stove. The chicken should release from the pan when it’s ready to flip.
Once both sides are nicely browned, remove the chicken from the skillet and place it on a rack. This allows any excess oil to drain off and keeps the chicken crispy. Now, it’s time to combine everything.
Combining the Chicken and Sauce
Return the chicken to the skillet and pour the firecracker sauce over it. Ensure each piece is well-coated with the sauce. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Place the skillet in the oven and let the chicken bake for about 10 minutes. This will help the sauce adhere to the chicken and develop a deeper flavor. After 10 minutes, remove the skillet from the oven.
Serving
Sprinkle some sesame seeds and chopped green onions over the chicken for garnish. This adds a bit of color and a burst of fresh flavor. Serve the firecracker chicken over a bed of white rice or alongside your favorite sides.
Enjoy your homemade firecracker chicken! This dish has a perfect balance of heat and sweetness, making it a hit for any occasion. Happy cooking!
